We discovered, over time, that many complaints which seemed justified were not so we now publish complaints only if they happen to be newsworthy. Therefore, only stories about companies which fail to respond to a serious complaint, or respond exceptionally well, will be published. We have now removed most complaints from our site, and will publish stories that we believe to be newsworthy. Our objective is to provide you with compensation for any significant legitimate loss. DO NOT THREATEN TO PUBLISH AN ONLINE COMPLAINT IF A COMPANY WILL NOT MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT. This can be considered to be blackmail. REFUNDS AND ADJUSTMENTS Our primary objective is to work with companies, lawyers, media, and other organizations to obtain refunds or adjustments for consumers who feel that they have been ripped off. When you submit a complaint asking for an adjustment, we bypass customer service and go directly to upper management to resolve your issue. We remind them that by making appropriate adjustments, they retain customers and avoid having their company criticized on multiple websites. We do not allow unedited complaints to be uploaded to our site because the shear volume, of often trivial complaints, dilutes the effectiveness of legitimate and serious complaints. NEWS ITEMS ripoffs.org will now write, or reprint, stories from non-copyrighted information submitted to us. We will also attempt to market stories to other media as appropriate. We retain 30% of any proceeds from stories published by other organizations. We will publish your story with a byline for a fee of $20. These must be interesting stories about significant rip-offs that are applicable to the general public.
