Compete.com purports to provide information relevant to traffic on websites. This information is not provided with the consent of the website owner. We monitor every detail of website visitations at our www.schoolofmusic.com website. Information captured includes: * visitor IP address * visitor operating system * visitor city, state, and country * length of visit * referrer * actual search terms used. During September, 2009, compete.com reported only 179 unique visitors to our website. During that time we tracked 3,103 unique visitors, including a handful of foreign visitors. Again, we can fully identify each visitor so these visitations cannot be disputed. During that same time Quantcaast, which actually monitors our site visits using a tool that is on our website, reported approximately 2,400 visitors. Quantcast does not monitor every landing page, however. Complaints to compete.com regarding the descrepancy resulted in emails from them regarding their (obviously flawed) methodology and the erroneous information remained on their site. If there purpose is only to provide sloppy guesses is there any value to their site? How can they have any credibility with an error rate of 94%. That would be similar to Car & Driver reporting that a Corvette can only achieve 12 miles per hour. Please send your opinions about compete.com to editor@ripoffs.org.
